The heavy duty brass reducing hexagon union male-female (figure 529) with flat seal, also known as tap extension with flat seal, is a threaded fitting made of brass which allows for adapting the end of a pipe or fitting with female thread to another with male thread. It is formed by a cylindrical male threaded end and the other end with a female thread of the same size with flat hexagonal outer pans for tightening. The greater thickness of the cylinder wall achieves higher surface seat at the ends, allowing sealing by means of a flat seal without need for Teflon or hemp fibre in the thread pitches.
